EU VISA TYPES

SCHENGEN VISIT VISA
This type of visa is for short stays up to 90 days within a 180 day period. This is suitable for tourist, business, transit or medical treatment purposes. Applicants should always have strong ties to their countries of resdience/nationality. There should be sufficient funds to cater for the travel expenses.
STUDENT VISA
To study a short course of less than 6 months, a visit visa can be utlised. If the course is longer than 6 months it is advisable to apply for a student (Long stay) visa. In most EU countries you may be required to get a residence permit when you arrive. To get a student visa, you would have an offer of admission from an eligible institution, proof of fund and payment of some percentage of the school fees.
EU BLUE CARD
This visa is for highly skilled workers from outside the EU countries. To apply for this visa you would have a genuine job offer which should meet the salary threshold. This visa can lead to permanent residence.
WORK VISA
This type of visa is country specific. While you dont need the same level of high skill threshold, similar to EU Blue Card requirements, to meet the requirements of work visa, you will still need sufficient skills and training/education for your application to be successful. You wil need to have a job offer before making the application.
FAMILY REUNION (TYPE D)
This is a general category for long stay visa to join a family member who is either working or in studying in EU/Schengen countries. There must be evidence of family relationship with the sponsor and suitable arrangement for accommodation. The sponsor should be able to provide adequate maintenance for the joining family member.
AIRPORT TRANSIT VISA
It is possible to transit an EU country airport with standard visit visa if you have it. But in the absence of type C visit visa, you can apply for ordinary transit visa for your traveling purpose. This type of vis is often termed Type A visa. Having such transit visa would not entitle you to cross the border, rather it enables you to transit effectively without entering the country.
